JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - This is a news from the Jones County Fire Council.
An 18-wheeler hauling logs collided with a passenger car Monday afternoon, resulting in the complete shut down of a portion of Highway 15 North. At around 3:40 p.m., units from Shady Grove and Sharon Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene of the accident on Highway 15 North near Morris Brown Road. When firefighters and Emergency Medical Responders arrived on scene, they found a log truck and a passenger car sitting side by side in the oncoming lane of traffic, blocking that lane and partially blocking the other lane. The adult male driver of the log truck and the adult female driver of the car both sustained no injuries and refused transport to the hospital.
The accident resulted in the complete shut down of a quarter mile stretch of Highway 15 North, forcing traffic to route around the incident scene. The road was shut down for about 45 minutes while accident investigation and cleanup operations took place. The cause of the accident is unknown.
Emergency personnel on scene included Shady Grove and Sharon Volunteer Fire Departments, EMServ Ambulance Service, Jones County Sheriff's Department, Jones County Fire Public Information Officer Caleb Worrell and Mississippi Highway Patrol.
