Columbia man charged in rash of auto burglaries

COLUMBIA, MS (WDAM) -

One person is behind bars in connection to a rash of auto burglaries in the city of Columbia.

Christian Starks, 23 of Columbia, was arrested Monday morning and charged with eight counts of auto burglary and possession of burglary tools.

“He was caught this morning actually in the commission of an auto burglary near a home on Alberta Street,” Columbia Police Department Capt. Rita Pickering said. 

Pickering added that the department has been looking into the increase in auto burglaries.

“In this case, Starks was actually breaking out the windows and gaining entry into vehicles that way,” Pickering said. 

A search warrant was served at Starks’ home,1107 Park Avenue in Columbia, and multiple items were recovered, according to Pickering.

“We got around $3,600 in cash, several phones, laptops, iPads and a firearm,” Pickering said. 

Pickering added that the investigation is still ongoing, and other charges are pending.

Starks was booked into the Marion County Jail where he is awaiting his initial appearance.

    As a freshman quarterback playing behind one of the best athletes to come through Columbia Academy in recent years, Thomas Erastus “Ras” Pace got his first career start in what was arguably the Cougars’ biggest game of the 2016 season. “I thought I did a pretty good job handing the ball off,” said Pace of his starting debut in a second-round MAIS AAA playoff game in place of the inured Wiley Cleland.
