Petal's 3-D School expanding to the Gulf Coast

PETAL, MS (WDAM) - A Petal special purpose school for children with dyslexia is expanding to the Gulf Coast.

The 3-D School is opening a branch in Ocean Springs in August. It will be located at the old Taconi Elementary School.

Executive Director Dr. Cena Holifield says it will initially serve about 40 children in second, third and fourth grades.

Staff are in the process of screening and evaluating students.

"We do have children that travel (to Petal) now from the Gulf Coast area and from Wiggins, Poplarville, Picayune, so the need in South Mississippi is great for a school," said Holifield. "So, it just seemed like the right time to take this leap and do it."

The 3-D School opened ten years ago.

It currently serves 128 students from across the state.
