Judge sentences man to prison for 2014 Hattiesburg murder

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A judge sentenced a man to prison for a 2014 murder in Hattiesburg.

Geino Payne was sentenced to 20 years in prison Thursday.

Payne pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on Feb. 23. He is the fourth person to plead guilty.

Jamarcus Pettigrew pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact of murder on Feb. 28. Pettigrew was originally indicted for murder, and he has yet to be sentenced.

Brandon McNair also pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact of murder and entered a plea on Oct. 21, 2016. McNair was originally indicted for murder, and he has yet to be sentenced.

Jawan Davis pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on March 2.

Davis was sentenced to 30 years, 20 to serve behind bars and the other 10 on post-release supervision.

Authorities believe the four men killed Nathaniel Alexander during a drive-by shooting on Nov. 29, 2014.

The 39-year-old was shot multiple times.

In all, police arrested 12 people in connection with his death.
