Crews replacing power pole after accident on Hwy 49

FORREST COUNTY (WDAM) -

A second accident occurred on Hwy 49 just past Classic Drive Wednesday morning, resulting in a downed power line and closure of the right northbound lane.

According to officials, the second accident happened when a truck hauling lumber crashed into a power pole, snapping it in two.

Crews are now on scene replacing the damaged power pole. The right northbound lane is currently closed until noon. 

Another accident at the intersection of Hwy 49 and Classic Drive was cleared around 7:45 a.m.

According to officials, the accident and the truck crash are related. 

MDOT reported the crash at 6:05 a.m. Wednesday.

    The City of Hattiesburg is urging motorists to use caution Thursday morning in various areas of the city due to utility work. Pearl River Valley Electric began work on switching out a transformer at 6 a.m.  So, traffic lights at US 98 and Hwy 11, US 98 and Lake Forgetful and US 98 and Cross Creek Parkway are expected to experience some downtime .  The Hattiesburg Police Department will be directing traffic in those areas to offer support in the event downtime does occur.&n...More >>
