Hundreds of children enjoy annual 'Birthday Party for Jesus'

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Hundreds of children got early Christmas gifts and a meaningful message about the reason for the holiday during an annual Yuletide event in Hattiesburg Saturday afternoon.

Christian Services, Inc. hosted its "Birthday Party for Jesus" at the Ben McNair Center.

Families were treated to a program of music with a message and children got stuffed toys, a sack lunch and other presents.

Dozens of staff, volunteers and donors worked to make the day special for the youngsters.

"We just get excited with the kids and just express our love for them and Jesus Christ," said Jim Prout, executive director of Christian Services, Inc.

"This is actually a party for Jesus, so this is a good chance for (the children) to learn about Jesus if they don't know, and having fun at the same time," said Meka Andrews.

Andrews brought her children to the event.

This marked the 30th year for the party.
