HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Thirty deserving students in Oak Grove got an early Christmas present Thursday thanks to Academy Sports + Outdoors.

The store's employees brought 30 new bikes and passed them out to selected students at Oak Grove Lower Elementary School.

The teacher's nominate their most deserving 2nd and 3rd graders based on attendance, behavior and good grades.

"We encourage positive behavior here, so these are the students that have really, really worked hard and impressed their teacher and got their name in the hat for the drawing," Said Joellen Martin, 2nd grade teacher. "These are the kids that are really striving to be the very best person that they can be."

Academy Sports has been participating in the giveaway locally with a different school each year since 2011. This was the store's 5th year.

"For some of the kids it could be the best Christmas gift that they get," said Principal Matt Thomas. "It's really just a wonderful thing to do and see."
