1 jailed in Hub City stabbing

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A Hattiesburg man is facing charges for allegedly stabbing a family member during a Sunday altercation in the Hub City.

James Walker Jr., is charged with domestic violence aggravated assault after a victim was found suffering from stab wounds.

“Sunday, officers were dispatched to Forrest General Hospital in reference to an aggravated assault victim that had been brought in by a privately-owned vehicle,” Hattiesburg Police Lt. Jon Traxler said. “Witnesses advised they found the victim involved in an altercation with James Walker Jr. at the intersection of Hood Road and Gasaway Loop.”

According to Traxler, the witness said the victim was stabbed and was bleeding heavily.

“The suspect was located a short time later in the 70 block of Walker Road, and was taken into custody without incident,” Traxler said. 

Traxler added that the victim and suspect are related, and that was the grounds for the domestic violence portion of the charge.

According to authorities, the investigation is ongoing, and anyone with any information is asked to call Hattiesburg Police or Metro Crime Stoppers at 601-582-STOP.

    The University of Southern Mississippi ended Saturday’s regular-season baseball finale at Marshall University the same way it started, with a bang. The 18th-ranked Golden Eagles sent 13 batters to the plate in both the second and ninth innings, scoring eight runs in each, as USM finished off a first-ever sweep of the Thundering Herd on its home turf with a 18-9 victory at Epling Stadium.
