Hattiesburg bluesman hoping for first individual Grammy win

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - An internationally-known blues artist from Hattiesburg has been nominated for a Grammy award for his album of music from Mississippi's "Father of Country Music."

Vasti Jackson has his first individual Grammy nomination for "The Soul of Jimmie Rodgers."

It was recorded in Hattiesburg and released earlier this year.

It's a tribute to the influential musician from Meridian and includes his songs "Hobo's Meditation" and "Standing on the Corner."

"Yes, I would like to win. of course, I would," said Jackson. "I have faith and I've done the work, it's up to God, it really is. It's the journey, not the destination and it's a beautiful journey."

The Grammy winners will be announced in Los Angeles on February 19th.
