JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

Foster kids are often forgotten, especially during the holiday season. The Ellisville Police and Fire Departments, along with Dollar General in Pendorff and Moselle, are teaming up with the Jones County Child Protective services in asking for the public’s help in toy donations for area foster kids.

Those who wish to help with making a foster child’s Christmas come true, may drop by the Ellisville Fire and Police departments to get the information of any one of the 46 foster kids to adopt that’s listed there and their wish lists. These lists include the child’s name, age and what they have asked for this Christmas.

They are requesting that the gifts not be gift-wrapped in order to ensure each child gets the present that’s one their wish list. They are in need of gifts from 1-month old, up to 17 years old. They are also asking that no monetary donation be made, but instead, purchase a gift to give.

Ellisville Deputy Court Clerk Lora Clifton said that these children are especially in need this time of year.

“These children are in foster care so something bad has happened in their life and just bringing a little bit of the Christmas spirit to them is really important to them right now," Clifton said.

Scott Wuertz, investigator for the Ellisville Police Department, said this is very important, and Jones County residents are up to the challenge in helping the forgotten foster children. Wuertz said it is a great feeling in helping these kids have a merry Christmas.

“It’s very fulfilling to be able to help them because these children are really in need,” Wuertz said. “We are getting donation every day and this is really a worthy cause.”

You can also adopt a child over the phone, by calling the Ellisville Police Department at 601-477-9252 and they will help you adopt a foster child of your choice, for Christmas.

Drop-off points will at the Ellisville Police and Fire Departments. There will also be drop off boxes for those who wish to purchase the gifts at the Dollar Stores in Pendorff and Moselle.
