COLUMBIA, MS (WDAM) - First responders in Marion County have been honored for their service by Pine Belt Mental Healthcare Resources.
A second annual appreciation luncheon was held Tuesday for police officers and firefighters at Pine Belt Day Services on Broad Street.
The guests dined on fried chicken, baked beans and potato salad.
The staff and clients at the facility say it's the least they can to to thank those who give so much to the community.
"(First responders are) so helpful with the people that go here and we're just friends," said Michelle Jacobs, supervisor for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Services in Marion County. "They are people we really appreciate and it's just a small gesture of us giving back to them."
"It means a lot to us, it makes us feel special and with all the problems going on in the world today, it's nice to be from a small town in South Mississippi," said Mike Cooper, chief of the Columbia Police Department.
The luncheon was organized by client Rob McLean.
