MS/AL All-star game to feature Pine Belt players

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The Mississippi-Alabama all-star game will be broadcast on WDAM 7 ABC this upcoming Saturday. The 30th annual game starts at noon on Saturday, December 10 and features several local players.

Laurel senior wide receiver Dontario Drummond will be competing. Drummond finished the 2016 season with 76 receptions for 1,568 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Bassfield’s Ron Thompson will also make the trip to Montgomery, Alabama. The senior running back rushed for 2,141 yards on 199 carries and found the end zone 38 times in 2016.

Hattiesburg High senior wide receiver Jordan Murphy rounds out the group of Pine Belt players to be featured in Saturday’s game. The Tennessee verbal commit caught 78 passes for 1,695 yards and 21 touchdowns this season.

Wayne County coach Todd Mangum will head the Mississippi squad while West Jones’ Scott Pierson serves as offensive coordinator and Bassfield head coach Lance Mancuso as a scout coach.

    The Lumberton Board of Aldermen voted to end the suspension of the police chief and fire the city clerk during a special-called meeting Thursday night.  On Monday, WDAM reported that the Lumberton Police Department said Chief Shane Flynt had submitted his resignation and that Phillip Ducksworth was serving as the interim police chief.
