JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A Moselle man made his initial appearance in Jones County Justice Court Monday afternoon after he was arrested and charged with sexual battery.

Richard Thompson, 47, was charged with two counts of sexual battery and Judge Billie Graham set his bond at $80,000 ($40,000 for each count).

According to a Jones County Sheriff’s Department press release, on Nov. 28, an investigator met with family members of a juvenile victim and a juvenile witness about a possible sexual battery.

The witness told police she watched an episode of “Law and Order” with her family and became physically sick and disturbed when the show featured a man keeping girls for the purposes of sexual gratification.

Later, the witness told her family members that she saw Thompson come into the room she and the victim were sharing during a sleepover. The witness said he displayed inappropriate behavior and inappropriate touching. According to the JCSD, the victim gave a recount of the event as well.

Thompson was taken into custody on Dec. 2.
