1 jailed in connection to Saturday's Hub City shooting

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

One person is behind bars in connection to a Saturday drive-by shooting in the Hub City.

Brian Lamar Rice, 25, was arrested this afternoon by Hattiesburg Police and charged with one count of aggravated assault and possession of a controlled substance (marijuana).

“Around noon today, Rice was located in the 300 block of East Scooba Street where he was taken into custody for a warrant in connection to the shooting that occurred in the 700 block of Eufala Street yesterday,” said Hattiesburg Police Lt. Jon Traxler.

That shooting occurred around 9 a.m., according to Traxler.

The victim in the shooting was hit, but his injuries were non-life threatening according to Traxler. The victim was transported to Forrest General Hospital where he was treated for his injures.

    The University of Southern Mississippi ended Saturday’s regular-season baseball finale at Marshall University the same way it started, with a bang. The 18th-ranked Golden Eagles sent 13 batters to the plate in both the second and ninth innings, scoring eight runs in each, as USM finished off a first-ever sweep of the Thundering Herd on its home turf with a 18-9 victory at Epling Stadium.
