STARKVILLE, MS (WDAM) -

Lafayette High School turned two Poplarville High School turnovers into 13 points on the Commodores’ way to a 20-0 halftime lead at Davis Wade Stadium.

Will Ard and Tyler Carmichael-Williams teamed up on a 77-yard touchdown pass to give Lafayette a 7-0 lead on its second offensive play of the game.

An interception by Tay Tay Owens at the Hornets’ 30-yard line in the second quarter set up Jamarcus Quarles’ 20-yard scoring run for a 14-0 lead.

Brandon Turnage  gave the Commodores a 20-0 lead 17 seconds before halftime when he stepped in front of a lateral as Poplarville attempted a hook-and-ladder play, and returned the takeaway 65 yards for a score.

Both teams are appearing in a state title game for the first time.
