Crusaders fall to Davenport 3-2 in double overtime

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

William Carey University season came to a heartbreaking end as they dropped a 3-2 double overtime thriller against Davenport University in quarterfinal action of the 2016 NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship.

Carey finishes the season at 16-3-2.

Davenport struck first in the 27th minute as Brayden Texer knocked a TJ Ifaturoti pass to the far left post to put the Panthers up 1-0.

Carey wouldn't given in and finally got on the board with 42 seconds left in the half as Paul Bracken (FR/Dublin, Ireland) smashed home a goal to tie the game at 1.

In the second half Davenport moved back in front as Jordan Van Oostenbrugge drilled home a goal from 30 yards out to make 2-1 Panthers.

With their backs against the wall the Crusaders dug deep and with 26 second left in the game there effort paid off as James Cooper (FR/Norfolk, England) blasted home a scissors kick from the top of the 18 to force overtime.

After a scoreless first frame the Panthers found the golden goal in the second overtime as Ifaturoti scored in the 102nd minute.

    A trailer home in Sandersville community caught fire on Sunday afternoon and is being considered a total loss.
