PINE BELT (WDAM) - Emergency crews are battling two separate grass fires in the Pine Belt.

In Forrest County, crews are on the scene of a grass fire off Morriston Road in Petal.

Officials said the fire started when wind blew a tree into a power line and knocked the power line to the ground.

Emergency management officials, along with Mississippi Highway Patrol, are battling a grass fire on Conway Road, just off Hwy 29 north of Runnelstown in Perry County.

According to Perry County Emergency Management Director Gerry Burns, this fire also began with high winds knocking over a tree and hitting a power line.
