LUMBERTON, MS (WDAM) -

Lumberton is going to the big one. Despite trailing at the half, the Panthers pulled through with a 50-48 overtime victory, advancing to the Class 1A state title game next week.

The Warriors held a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.

Thanks to the rushing prowess of Dre Coleman, the Panthers were able to get on the board in the second. They went for the two-point conversion but failed to convert.

Nanih Waiya went into the half with a 7-6 lead.

While the first half was certainly slow offensively, the teams got it going in the second half.  The Warriors held a 28-20 lead at the end of the third. The game got even tighter in the fourth.

Coleman continued his rushing attack, breaking loose for a 39-yard score to tie the game at 34 with just under eight minutes left in the game.

Markus Kittrell is well aware when people speak of Wayne County football, the assumption is the conversation will be of the public school War Eagles. For a second consecutive football season, West Marion High School and Presbyterian Christian School will square off in the season-opening game for each school. But neither team knows quite what to expect from not only the team across the field but the one arrayed along its own sideline.
