BASSFIELD, MS (WDAM) -

Bassfield’s run at a fifth straight class 2A state championship came to a halt as Bay Springs beat the Yellowjackets 18-13.

Bassfield took a 13-12 lead into the locker room at halftime in their game with the Bay Springs Bulldogs.

Bay Springs was driving to take the lead late in the second quarter deep in Yellowjacket territory, but turned the ball over with an interception that was returned to the Bay Springs 40 yard line.

Ultimately Bassfield would fall to Baysprings 18-13, making it a somber end to the team's last game as the Yellowjackets.

Bassfield will consolidate with Prentiss schools next year and will be in class 3A.
