JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A man was injured in a two-vehicle accident in the Sharon community on Friday.

At 1:55 p.m., units from Sharon and Shady Grove Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene of the accident on Sharon Road.

According to Jones County Fire Council Public Information Officer Caleb Worrell, when firefighters arrived on scene they found a blue car to the side of the road with extensive damage to its front and driver's side. They also saw a pickup truck blocking one lane of the road with similar damage.

According to reports, the male adult driver of the car sustained minor injuries and was transported by EMServ ambulance to South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel for treatment.

The driver of the pickup truck appeared to be uninjured, according to Worrell.

A section of Sharon Road was completely shutdown during rescue and cleanup operations and traffic was rerouted around the accident.

Emergency personnel on scene included Sharon and Shady Grove Volunteer Fire Departments, EMServ Ambulance Service, Jones County Sheriff's Department and Jones County Fire Public Information Officer Caleb Worrell.

Fire apparatus included Sharon Rescue and Shady Grove Rescue 2.

    The University of Southern Mississippi ended Saturday’s regular-season baseball finale at Marshall University the same way it started, with a bang. The 18th-ranked Golden Eagles sent 13 batters to the plate in both the second and ninth innings, scoring eight runs in each, as USM finished off a first-ever sweep of the Thundering Herd on its home turf with a 18-9 victory at Epling Stadium.
