HATTIESBURG, MS -

Southern Miss junior running back Ito Smith has been named as one of ten finalists for the Conerly Trophy.

The annual award, named for College Football Hall of Famer Charlie Conerly, goes to Mississippi’s most outstanding college football player. Former Mississippi State and current Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott earned the honor the last two years.

Smith has carried the ball 215 times for 1,194 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2016. He’s also the Golden Eagles’ second-leading receiver with 38 catches for 390 yards and a touchdown. Smith has scored a touchdown in 16 consecutive games for Southern Miss.

The Conerly Trophy will be presented on November 29 at the Clarksdale Country Club.
