One dead in 4-vehicle accident in Marion County

MARION COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A four-vehicle accident in Marion County has resulted in one fatality Friday afternoon.

According to an official on the scene, a call came in at 2:06 p.m. of an accident on Highway 13 South, one mile from the Marion/Lamar county line in the Pine Burr community.

At least four cars were involved, and one fatality has been confirmed at this time.

Mississippi Highway Patrol is working the scene, but four different area volunteer fire departments also responded: Tri-Community, Pine Burr, South Marion and Foxworth.

Traffic is blocked at the scene, but detours are in place. However, the road will be closed for some time due to reconstruction as a result of the accident.

    The University of Southern Mississippi ended Saturday’s regular-season baseball finale at Marshall University the same way it started, with a bang. The 18th-ranked Golden Eagles sent 13 batters to the plate in both the second and ninth innings, scoring eight runs in each, as USM finished off a first-ever sweep of the Thundering Herd on its home turf with a 18-9 victory at Epling Stadium.

    A man is recovering from injuries after he claims he was beaten by officers with the Laurel Police Department. Thirty-six-year-old James Barnett indicated the incident took place on Tuesday, May 15.
