Petal Police host first SWAT competition

PETAL, MS (WDAM) -

Dozens of police officers and deputy sheriffs gathered in Petal Thursday to test their skills in marksmanship and physical fitness.

They participated in a SWAT competition hosted by the Petal Police Department.

Police officers from Petal and Hattiesburg, along with deputies from the Lamar County Sheriff's Department, took part in static pistol and rifle marksmanship and mobile firing exercises.

Participants also were tested on an obstacle course.

Most activities took place at the Petal Police Firing Range.

About 40 officers competed in the event.

It was the first time for Petal Police to host the competition.
