HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Pine Belt residents are being urged to vote one more time this month, but not for their favorite politician.

Instead, they are encouraged to cast an online vote that could bring a large concert series to the Hub City next summer.

It is all part of an effort to get a $25,000 grant for the Levitt AMP Music Series.

Southern Miss, the Hattiesburg Arts Council and the city of Hattiesburg are working together to get the grant.

Fifteen cities across the U.S. will be selected to get the grants. They are chosen from a group of 25 that receive the most online votes.

Jonathan Pluskota, an assistant professor of mass communication and journalism at USM, said the series consists of 10 concerts, from July through September, and would feature blues, gospel, jazz and other forms of music from local and regional artists.

The concerts would be held at Chain Park.

Voting ends this Sunday. Pluskota said at last check, Hattiesburg ranked 29th in the voting.

In the past, Mississippi cities like Cleveland and New Albany have received similar grants.
