Vehicle found several yards from roadway after wreck

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

At 11:30 p.m. Friday, units from Sandersville and Rustin Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene of a one-vehicle accident near the intersection of Claiborne Road and Clyde Walker Road.

When firefighters arrived, they found a red SUV several yards from the roadway pinned against a grouping of trees with extensive damage to its front-end, as well as other parts of the vehicle.

According to reports, after leaving the roadway, the SUV ran through a barbed wire fence and over several small trees before colliding with a group of larger trees.

The female driver was able to exit the vehicle on her own, but firefighters on scene stated that she appeared to have sustained moderate injures and was transported by EMServ ambulance to South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel for treatment.

Witnesses at nearby homes reported hearing screeching tires followed by a loud bang as the SUV crashed into the trees.

Both roads remained open to traffic, but one lane of each road was shutdown for emergency vehicles.

Emergency personnel on scene included Sandersville and Rustin Volunteer Fire Departments, EMServ Ambulance Service, Jones County Sheriff's Department and Jones County Fire Pubic Information Officer Caleb Worrell.

Fire apparatus included Sandersville Rescue and Brush. Units also arrived in their personal vehicles.
