PINE BELT (WDAM) - Tuesday was a historic general election.
The nation voted Donald Trump as president elect, and Hillary Clinton conceded the election to Trump over a phone call.
Other note-worthy elections statewide included Rep. Steven Palazzo being re-elected to the House of Representatives.
"I think it's a great indication that what we're doing, not only in this district, but in Washington D.C., resonates with the good people of South Mississippi," Palazzo said.
Palazzo re-election did not come easy after his opponent Rick McCluskey alleged that he went AWOL from the National Guard.
Palazzo denied those allegations.
Dawn Beam also beat out opponent Michael Shareef for the Supreme Court Justice position.
Beam was first appointed to the Supreme Court by Governor Phil Bryant in 2015. Beam filled in the unexpired term of Justice Randy Pierce, who stepped down in January of 2016.
Another history making election was called in Forrest County where 18-year-old Tyler Wood was projected as the winner of the District 1 Election Commissioner race. Once officially called, Wood will have ousted five-term incumbent Charlie Phillips.
Forrest County also struggled throughout the night with multiple problems surrounding the polling machines. Election commissioners said they did not believe any ballots were affected.
