What you need to know ahead of the general election

The general election is Tuesday, November 8. Here's what you need to know before you head to the polls. 

Who is on the ballot: Races and candidates on your ballot may vary depending on your county. The presidential race will be on every voter's ballot along with the supreme court justice race, and congressional races. However, school board races, election commissioner races, and special elections may also appear on your ballot depending on where you live. To view your county's sample ballot click here. 

When polls open: 

Polls open at 7 a,m. Tuesday and close at 7 p.m. If you voted absentee or affidavit, your votes will be counted when the polls close Tuesday, 

What to bring: Make sure you bring photo identification, such as a driver's license, student ID, or military ID when you head to the polls to vote.

Where you vote

To find out where to vote, click here.  This website assists in locating your polling place based on your address. Simply enter your home address and receive your polling location, its address, and directions.  Make sure that your current address is the one listed on your voter registration card.

If you experience any problems: Contact the Secretary of State. There is an election hotline set up for voters who may run into issues at the polls. Those numbers are as followed: Elections Hotline: 800-829-6786 and Elections Call Center: 601-576-2550.

Where you get election results: 

After the polls close, make sure you follow WDAM-TV on Facebook and Twitter for election coverage. 

You can get live election results straight to your phone by downloading the WDAM News app for Apple or Android device. Simply download the app, and in the left hand tool bar click the "Live elections results" tab. Make sure you opt-in to our push alerts to receive breaking notifications when results are in.
