LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - Downtown Laurel businesses are getting a head start on holiday sales.
Antique stores, clothing shops and other businesses opened Sunday afternoon as part of an annual, "Downtown Christmas Open House."
Shoppers took advantage of special deals on all kinds of merchandise, while retailers got a boost in sales.
"We've been here for about 20 years and its exciting to have so many new faces around downtown and businesses opening up," said Dawn Trest, manager of Southern Antiques. "This is kind of our kick start to the holidays."
"I've always grown up supporting local downtown," said Catharine Reich, a shopper from Laurel. "I love Laurel and I want to see the business in the downtown area grow, so that we can have a bigger and better community."
More than a dozen businesses participated in the Open House.
