HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The men and women of America's Armed Forces were the guests of honor at the Southern Miss-Charlotte football game Saturday.
It was Military Appreciation Day on the Hattiesburg campus.
Lots of free tickets for active-duty military were handed out and the game featured a special salute to servicemen and women.
Before kickoff, USM Army and Air Force ROTC cadets led the Eagle Walk.
Cadets from JROTC detachments in Jackson and Mobile also took part.
"One of the things we're very fortunate to have here in South Mississippi is a tremendous patriotism of all the communty," said Lt. Col. Joseph Swindle, professor of Military Science at USM. "So, as we look for support within our campus, within our community and then our program, we just see an outreach all the time to support us."
"I do feel appreciated and I usually always feel appreciated," said Delvon Lewis, cadet commander of the Eagle Battalion of the Army ROTC at Southern MIss. "There's a lot of 'thank you for your services' and even just as a cadet and you're just starting out and you don't really understand the value of that statement until you've actually done a little bit more work, but it's always nice to hear it anyway," he said.
