WAYNE COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

The Wayne County Sheriff has confirmed to WDAM 7 News that the Wayne County School District is investigating a shooting involving one of their school buses.

According to Sheriff Jody Ashley, a concerned citizen contacted him regarding shots fired at a Clara Elementary School bus.

Ashley said he was told that the student responsible for the shooting was expelled, and that it was his understanding that the matter was being investigated by the school district.

"I checked and The Wayne County Sheriff's Department did not get a 911 call regarding the incident," Ashley said.

Seven on Your Side reached out to the Wayne County School District Superintendent Bobby Jones regarding the reports, and he gave the following statement:

"An incident happened, school board policy was followed. I cannot comment about any matters involving students." - Bobby Jones.

It is unclear at this time as to whether or not any other students were on the bus at the time of the shooting.

This is a developing story. Details will be provided as information becomes available.
