HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

This is a news release from United Blood Services

This Halloween, the vampires at United Blood Services “vant” YOU!

Celebrate Halloween by donating blood.   Join United Blood Services for a Halloween blood drive event on Monday, October 31, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 805 S. 28th Avenue in Hattiesburg.

All donors will receive a Halloween donor shirt, a movie ticket through points in online rewards store, one entry to win a $100 Visa Card and Halloween cookies! Halloween costumes are welcome!

Every three seconds, a patient receives a life saving blood transfusion.

All blood types are always needed, however, an emergency appeal was recently released for donations from donors with O negative type blood, which is the universal blood type and is most transfused in trauma situations.

United Blood Services is also in great need of platelet donations. Platelets are often used for cancer patients and surgeries.  When you donate blood, plasma and/or platelets, you are helping to ensure that family and friends in our community have the blood they need when it is needed, to help fight the battle they are facing.

Those who wish to donate may call 601-264-0743 or visit www.bloodhero.com to make an appointment to give.

Blood donation takes about an hour from check-in to refreshments. Donors can save about 20 minutes by completing their Fast Track Health History the day they donate. It’s at www.UnitedBloodServices.org.

Volunteer blood donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Additional height/weight requirements apply to donors 22 and younger, and donors who are 16 and 17 must have signed permission from a parent or guardian.
