A burglary suspect is in custody after Lamar County Deputies conducted a manhunt Wednesday morning.
Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel identified the suspect as Chazz Hart, 22, of Poplarville.
“We still have deputies in the area, but everything points that the suspect was alone during the burglary attempt,” said Rigel. “We just feel certain that he was the only one involved, but we are still going to have a very heavy presence of deputies in the area on patrol to be safe.”
Rigel said the suspect in custody is being charged with 4 counts of residential burglary, 2 counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, 1 count of felony eluding, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Originally it was reported that there were two suspects, but Rigel said he is confident that there was only one suspect involved.
“Someone spotted the vehicle we have been looking for behind a house so we moved in, and the two suspects fled in a vehicle and struck two of our deputies in a truck,” said Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel.
According to Sheriff Danny Rigel, deputies were working a detail in Lamar County in the McMahon Road area after multiple burglaries have been reported.
Rigel added that both of the deputies are unharmed, and the Mississippi Highway Patrol was called in to work the wreck scene.
Hart is going to be connected to multiple other burglaries in the area, according to Rigel.
Rigel said if you see anything suspicious or out of place, contact the Lamar County Sheriff’s Department.
This is a developing story and we will continue to update as information becomes available.
