WAYNESBORO, MS (WDAM) -

Wayne County authorities are looking for the owner of a car that was found burned out in a wooded area in the north part of the county Sunday.

Sheriff Jody Ashley said his office got the call around 3:30 p.m.

He said the car, which is a late model Nissan Altima, was in the woods near Chapparal Hiwannee Road.

The immediate area around it was also burned.

The license plate and the vehicle identification number had been removed.

He said it was silver or white.

Ashley said he's been in touch with adjacent law enforcement agencies to see if it was stolen or used to commit a crime.

If you have any information about the vehicle, call the Wayne County Sheriff's Department at (601) 735-2323.
