HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Halloween is almost here, and the Hattiesburg Police Department is reminding everyone to stay safe.

Hours for trick-or-treating in Hattiesburg will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Halloween night.

Lieutenant Jon Traxler and HPD are asking people to be aware of the neighborhoods where children are trick-or-treating.

“Don’t go to a strange neighborhood or somewhere you’ve never been," Traxler said.

For parents with children who are trick-or-treating, it is important to make sure costumes are visible.

“We want to make sure the public knows to make sure that the costumes are visible to the regular public driving down the road or even walking,” Traxler said.

It is also important to avoid dark colors when selecting a costume, but if your child has a costume that is mostly dark, make sure the costume has reflective lights. This can include flashlights or glow sticks.

Traxler also commented on the clown matter.

"We have no issues right now so at this time, there’s nothing to worry about," Traxler said.
