Player of the Week: All around effort lands Agnew award

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - In one of his team's biggest games of the season. Will Agnew came through with a performance to match.

Pick any way to impact a game, and Agnew probably checks the box for most in Sacred Heart's win over Richton. The senior rushed for over 150 yards and four touchdowns. He caught three passes for a touchdown and added five tackles.

This all-around performance makes Agnew this week's Academy Sports and Outdoors Player of the Week.

"That was a blast," Agnew said. "Especially because it was senior night too. I was able to do that well for my last game on this field. It was just a ton of fun."

Crusaders coach Lonny Schraeder has gotten to know and coach Agnew for a few years.

"I've known Will since he was in eighth grade," Schraeder said. "I've coached him since he was in eighth grade. He's a great kid. He's a hard worker. He's a leader and he's just a great kid to be around."

Though he excels all over the field, there is no mistaking Agnew's greatest strength.

"We want to try to get him out in space and get a head of steam," Schraeder said. "He's like a runaway beer truck coming down hill. He's hard to tackle once he gets in the open."

Another big game looms this week for the Crusaders. They visit Bogue Chitto. A win gets them into the 1A playoffs for the first time in program history.

"They really haven't had that great of a season," Agnew said of the Bogue Chitto. "They're 0-9 but they played Resurrection, whose arguably one of the best 1A teams in the state. They were tied fourteen all in the first quarter so this week we're really going to have to prepare."
