POPLARVILLE, MS (WDAM) - Two nationally-known political analysts debated the nation's future Tuesday night in Poplarville.
Conservative columnist and author Cal Thomas and CNN analyst Bakari Sellers participated in a forum called, "Crossroads-A Discussion of America's Future" at Pearl River Community College.
The event, at the Brownstone Center, was part of the college's Honors Institute Lecture Series.
Before the discussion, Thomas and Sellers spoke with honors students at a reception at White Hall.
"I grew up in a time where you had people like John Kenneth Galbraith, the liberal economist, and William Buckley, the conservative icon, who would argue issues, but did it in a civil manner and treated each other with respect," said Thomas, a longtime syndicated columnist and radio commentator. "We've not seen much of that in America today."
"I think a lot of people see that this (presidential) race is 14 days out and we're wrapping up and a lot of people want to know what the first 100 days of a Trump presidency or a Clinton presidency will look like, but even more importantly, how do we bring our nation back together," said Sellers, a former state legislator in South Carolina who also ran unsuccessfully for Lieutenant Governor in 2014.
The program was sponsored by the Lower Pearl River Valley Foundation.
