WAYNE COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A 23-year-old has been charged in connection to a weekend murder in Wayne County.
Ernest Lee West Junior was arrested and charged with first degree murder Saturday, according to Wayne County Police Commander Don Hopkins.
West was taken into custody six hours after the homicide.
West is accused of killing 23-year-old Marcus McGill.
According to the Wayne County Coroner David Pugh, McGill apparently died from gunshot wounds he received in a vacant lot on Sunset Street around 9:30 p.m.
McGill was taken by private vehicle to Wayne General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later.
Pugh said McGill's body is being sent to Jackson for autopsy.
Hopkins said McGill and West knew each other, and went to school with one another.
Hopkins would not comment on what may have led to the incident, but did say that the investigation is ongoing.
