The national clown craze was taken to a new level when Kemper County announced its decision to ban clown costumes this week.
Anyone wearing a clown costume in the county is subject to a $150 fine.
Petal Mayor Hal Marx spoke to WDAM 7 News about the ban.
“I think they’ve kind of overblown it and sort of overreacted to it,” Marx said.
As far as a fine in the Friendly City, Marx said the residents of Petal have nothing to fear.
“There will be no ordinances in the city of Petal,” Marx said. “If you want to dress as a clown or as a ghost that’s fine."
The city of Petal is hosting a Fall Festival Oct. 29, and Marx does not expect the clown craze to cause any issues.
"It’s going to be a great fun day; I just hope we have great weather for it,” Marx said.
