Jones County man pleads guilty to sexual battery of three-year-old

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A Jones County man pleaded guilty to one count of sexual battery. 

The District Attorney accepted Randy Pruitt's plea to avoid traumatizing the three-year-old victim. 

Pruitt will serve five years in prison with three years to serve day-for-day.

Pruitt also must register as a sex offender. 

The scene: 

A Jones County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to South Central Regional Medical Center in February for a possible sexual assault complaint on a minor. 

A young juvenile reported that a close family member had inappropriately touched her, according to JCSD. 

During a forensic interview, the victim identified Pruitt as the perpetrator. 

Pruitt and was taken into custody March 20, and interviewed the following day.
