HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A former star of the "Dukes of Hazzard" is in Hattiesburg this week, promoting independent films.
John Schneider Studios and Maven Entertainment have brought the CineFlix Film Fest to the Grand Theater.
It includes 24 films, dealing with issues from homelessness to gun violence.
Four of the films were written and directed by Schneider.
"We're the only film festival that actually cuts the filmmaker in on the ticket price," Schneider said. "And we're also the only film festival that cuts the exhibitor, the theater owner, in on the life of the film, so that the exhibitor is actually a back-end participant in whatever happens to these movies."
"You normally don't have any say so in any part of the distribution or any part of the advertising of your film at all," said actor and writer Quantae Love, whose film "Popolo" is being screened at the festival. "Here, you are allowed to keep the integrity of your film as you shot it. So, that is one of the most important things about this film festival itself, the integrity of our film and our message stays intact."
The festival runs through Thursday.
Its next stop is Roswell, Georgia.
