Occupants narrowly avoid injury in rollover accident

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A one vehicle rollover occurred early Monday morning on Interstate 59.

At around 7:10 a.m., units from Moselle and South Jones Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene of the accident near mile marker 76.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found the silver passenger car lying on its roof in the median of the interstate.

Both occupants were able to escape the vehicle. 

The occupants were assessed on scene by EMServ medics, had only minor injuries, and refused transport to the hospital. Both sides of the interstate remained open during rescue and cleanup operations. The cause of the accident is unknown.

Rescue personnel on scene included Moselle and South Jones Volunteer Fire Departments, EMServ Ambulance Service, Jones County Sheriff's Department, Mississippi Highway Patrol and Jones County Fire Public Information Officer Caleb Worrell.

Fire apparatus included Moselle Engine and Rescue; South Jones Engine and Rescue 1.

    Southern Miss looks to add a Conference USA tournament title to its regular season crown this week in Biloxi. The Golden Eagles (39-15, 23-6 C-USA) open tournament play against UAB on Wednesday at 4 p.m. inside MGM Park.
