Annual Southern Comedy
Laurel Little Theatre's annual Southern comedy is coming up - only this year, it's a funny Southern "political" comedy – performed right in the very middle of this year's election season. Need a little diversion from Hillary and the Donald? Well…here it is!
"RUNNING MATES" was the 2013 winner of the Eudora Welty New Play Award for author Beth Kander, and LLT is proud to be one of the first theatre companies in the country to produce it.
Directed by long-time LLT alumni Missy Sanderson, the show runs October 20-21-22 with 7:30PM performances on that Thursday, Friday and Saturday; and there's a Sunday matinee at 2PM on October 23.
The story? The mayor of a sleepy Georgia town is once again up for re-election. For over twenty years, he always ran unopposed, but this time he has to duke it out with his own wife on the ballot. Sparks fly and and everyone is thrown for a loop as they get down and dirty and duke it out with their political fisticuffs.
All politics are local – but especially if you live with one of your opponents – so you can bet that belly laughs will be abundant!
The LLT production features real-life couple Frankie and Rick Bennett as the mayor and his wife, and the cast is rounded out with veteran actors Erin Brady, Will Hodges, J.T. Robinson and Katelyn Welch.
R.K. Wilson is the assistant director and Ethan Glenn is serving as stage manager.
LLT's 4-punch season tickets are still available to be used through the year. For single ticket or season ticket information, check LaurelLittleTheatre.com or write LLTLaurelMS@aol.com.
