HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A kindergarten teacher at Earl Travillion Attendance Center has won $1,000 worth of school supplies in an annual contest sponsored by Fred's Pharmacy.

Somer Dearman, who has taught at the school for 10 years, was the first place winner in the second "Best in Class" challenge.

Dearman won by receiving the most votes on social media. She qualified for the contest after demonstrating how she used the retailer's products to decorate her classroom.

Fred's Pharmacy delivered her supplies in a surprise visit to the school on Tuesday.

"Now, we're able to provide school supplies to (students) after those beginning of the year supplies begin to run out," said Dearman. "So, come Christmas we can give color pencils, markers, crayons and scissors to kids who necessarily wouldn't have supplies when they need them."

Dearman also got a $100 gift card, which she can use to purchase more school supplies for her students.
