Area schools in latest AP poll

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Five area schools showed up on the latest Associated Press Mississippi high school football poll.

Laurel and Hattiesburg are ranked in Class 5A at three and five respectively. Bassfield represents the area for Class 2A, holding the top spot. Lumberton checks in at number five in Class 1A.

Presbyterian Christian ranks second in the private school division. Jackson Prep is number one. These schools will meet up Friday in Jackson.

Class 6A: 1. Clinton; 2. Tupelo; 3. Brandon; 4. Warren Central; 5. Northwest Rankin

Class 5A: 1. Picayune; 2. West Point; 3. Laurel; 4. Clarksdale; 5. Hattiesburg

Class 4A: 1. St. Stanislaus; 2. Houston; 3. Pontotoc; 3. West Lauderdale; 5. Amory

Class 3A: 1. Hazlehurst; 2. Raleigh; 3. Kemper County; 4. Charleston; 5. Tylertown

Class 2A: 1. Bassfield; 2. Calhoun City; 3. Union; 4. Bay Springs; 5. Puckett

Class 1A: 1. Simmons; 2. Resurrection Catholic; 3. Nanih Waiya; 4. Smithville; 5. Lumberton

Private Schools: 1. Jackson Prep; 2. Presbyterian Christian; 3. Madison-Ridgeland Academy; 4. Indianola Academy; 5. Lamar School
