HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

On Monday, the Hattiesburg Police Department added five officers to the force.

The five officers were sworn in during a brief ceremony at Hattiesburg City Hall with friends and family looking on.

“Well it just gives us assets, and that’s what we need to put more manpower there on the streets, to again enforce the laws and do security and safety here for our citizens here in the city of Hattiesburg,” Hattiesburg Police Lt. Jon Traxler said.

The new officers include Jacob Knight, Hunter Gavin, Christopher Sargent, William Gordon and Adam Jones.

The officers will be paired with a field training officer for several weeks until they complete their training.

The department is slotted for 125 officers, and with the addition of the five, it brings their total to 101 officers.
