Stone County Economic Development Partnership plans for barbecue, blues events

Wiggins, MS—The Stone County Economic Development Partnership – Chamber Division announced plans for the second annual Stone County BBQ & Blues Competition scheduled for Saturday, October 14, 5 – 8 p.m. and Saturday, October 15, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Blaylock Park in Downtown Wiggins.  Stone County BBQ & Blues is a Barbecue Competitors Alliance (BCA) sanctioned event.  We expect more than twenty-five Pit Masters and their teams to compete for $5,000 in cash prizes and an opportunity to qualify for Grand Championship status and moving on to compete in the 2017 Jack Daniel's World Championship. Winners are awarded points in multiple categories as well as prize money.

In addition to the opportunity to watch professionals compete; back yard BBQ aficionados are welcome to join the competition.  Friday evening is all about local braggin' rights!  Teams will compete for cash and awards.  Call for details. 

What goes well with BBQ?  Blues music of course.  Elusive Behavior will perform Friday evening 5 - 8 p.m.  Bring your lawn chairs or a blanket and enjoy a bit of friendly local competition while listening to local favorites.  Cowboy Blues Band will perform on Saturday, 11 – 1:30 and Stone County's own Little Jimmy will be featured on the stage at Blaylock from 1:30 – 4 p.m. This is a family friendly event so bring the kids along to enjoy free activities including face painting, drawing, and fun jumping experiences.  BBQ plates available for $15 each. Drinks and desserts are available for purchase with proceeds benefitting the Stone High Clubs and Organizations.
