MISSISSIPPI (WDAM) -

More than 100 Mississippi Power employees left for Georgia Saturday morning to assist in hurricane recovery.

Employees from Gulfport, Hattiesburg and Meridian left Mississippi to help restore power to the almost 300,000 Georgia Power customers without power due to Hurricane Matthew, many of who live on the Georgia coastline.

According to Jeff Shepard with Mississippi Power, crews will begin work Sunday morning and are prepared to stay for many days while power restoration takes place.

"While Mississippi Power employees consider it an honor to assist those who are trying to restore power and ultimately, the quality of life for these residents, Mississippi Power makes certain to leave behind the crews and manpower necessary to insure reliable service to their customers back home," Shepard said.
