HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Another season, another potent schedule for The University of Southern Mississippi baseball team.
The Golden Eagles will play 23 of their 56 games in 2017 against teams that reached this past spring's NCAA postseason, including contests with Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Tulane, Louisiana-Lafayette, Xavier, South Alabama, Southeastern Louisiana, Rice, Florida Atlantic and Louisiana Tech.
USM opens the season on Feb. 17-19 with a three-game series at Taylor Park against Northeastern University.
Those will be the first three games of a 30-game home schedule, which also will feature first-time opponents Xavier and Columbia.
The Golden Eagles open conference play March 17-19 at Louisiana Tech in Ruston, LA. The first home conference series is set for March 24-26 with a visit from Marshall.
"This program plays a difficult schedule each season and this year will be no different," USM coach Scott Berry said. "We are pleased to be able to play 30 home games this year as well as give our fans a chance to see us a couple of times both in the greater Jackson area as well as the Mississippi Gulf Coast this season."
The Golden Eagles are coming off a 41-20 season that saw them win a Conference USA Tournament crown and reach an NCAA Regional for the 13th time in program history.
