'Drive to Inspire' promoting breast cancer awareness

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Forrest General Hospital has rolled out an annual campaign to increase awareness of breast cancer.  

It is called "Drive to Inspire," and it encourages women to make time for monthly self-exams and annual screenings.

Forrest General is parking a 2017 Toyota Camry at various locations across the Pine Belt in October and cancer survivors, friends and family are being asked to sign it with their name or an inspiring message.  

"Some people sign it on behalf of themselves, as cancer survivors or patients, and then some people choose to use it as a memorial for friends and loved ones," said Amanda Kirby, media coordinator at Forrest General Hospital. 

On Friday, the car will be at Hattiesburg Clinic for an annual cancer survivors' picnic.

    Southern Miss baseball will be missing four key contributors when the its season opens against Mississippi State on February 16. Hayden Roberts, Taylor Braley, Kirk McCarty and Dylan Burdeaux wrapped up their first minor league seasons in the fall. Roberts, a 34th round MLB draftee of the Colorado Rockies, struck out 45 batters in 21 games with the Grand Junction Rockies.
