At around 5:20 p.m., units from Calhoun, Pleasant Ridge and Powers Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene of the two vehicle accident on Highway 84 West in front of Life Church.

Upon arrival, firefighters and Emergency Medical Responders found two heavily damaged vehicles to the side of the road on the westbound side of the highway. A pickup truck had severe damage to its front-end, and a passenger van had extensive damage to its rear-end and was rolled onto its driver's side.

Firefighters had to extricate the front-passenger from the pickup truck.

According to The Jones County Fire Council, the three juveniles in the pickup truck sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported by EMServ and ASAP ambulances to South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel for treatment.

The two occupants in the passenger van refused transport by ambulance and were taken to the hospital in a personal vehicle. Rescue 7 helicopter was requested to be on standby due to the severity of the wreck but was cancelled when it was confirmed that none of the injuries were life threatening.

An Emergency Medical Responder with Powers Volunteer Fire Department and his son were leaving swim practice across the highway from the accident when they heard the collision.

The Powers volunteer then responded to the scene and assisted with rescue operations. Several Life Church staff members also stopped to assist firefighters.

Neither of the two vehicles were blocking the roadway, but emergency vehicles did take up one lane to ensure safety during rescue and cleanup operations.

Rescue personnel on scene included Calhoun, Pleasant Ridge and Powers Volunteer Fire Departments, EMServ Ambulance Service, ASAP Ambulance Service and Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Fire apparatus included Calhoun Engine 1 and Rescue 1 and Pleasant Ridge Engine. Several firefighters also arrived in their personal vehicles.
